Self Protrait

For your own self portrait you need to consider the following.

1. Firstly think about the type of person you want to portray.
2. Where are you going to take the picture, Think about a location important to you or the image that you want to project.
3. How will you structure the image? Props, or picture editing software (what are you going to manipulate?)

You will be responsible for constructing your own image. It is important that you are the one that does the work towards your image. This means that you set up the shot another person can press the shutter, however they are not responsible for ensuring that it is in focus of well exposed.

1. For my self portrait I want it to show me for the person I am. I want my picture to show a fun, lively, honest person but i want it to be comletely different to anything else.
2. I am still struggling to find a place where i would want to take my picture and somewhere that would reflect me in the way i would want to be seen.
3. I want to keep it a clear shot but still want to have the things i love in it.
   

Rag Week

Children in need

For children in need our Media class decided to dress up for a week and help raise money.
Through out the week we were all given different job/ tasks to do. What i did for the week:

• I Dressed up - From Tuesday through to Friday our whole class dressed up, Tuesday was Neon Day, Wednesday was Mat Hat Day, Thursday was Random Day (I decided to come in my pj's) and Friday was Hero's and Villains.
• I helped take pictures - At the start of everyday (Tuesday till Friday) everybody who dressed up had to have their pictures take and displayed. I helped take the pictures, for people on their own or in groups of two i used Portrait and for groups and large classes i used Landscape.
• I helped raise money - Because of us all dressing up everyday we went out into Crawley and around the college and ask for donations from people.
• I helped set up the studio - Because of the pictures being taken everyday we had to set up a 'studio', this means that i had to help set everything thing up (the camera and tripods) i also had to make sure that if there were any trailing wires or cables that they were secured down due to health and safety.
• I helped set up the lights - For the photos we decided to try and get a more profesional look, this meant that lights needed to be set up and the wires from them properly secured down. I needed to make sure the lights were in the right position and didnt cause any helth or saftey problems to anybody.

Building up to the Exhibition

We had to set up our 'Studio' which had 2 lights, 2 Gels, 3 Tripods and 1 Camera, we set it up so it would have looked a bit like this:

The World Up-Side Down

From my pictures taken on Friday I'm going to look at two and write about why i took them.

My first picture i want to look at is of the red slide.
It took me 3/4 minuets to get to this picture as i thought out of the 4 i took this one was the best.
I really like this picture as it is so simple but still has a lot of detail to it.
i think this picture can mean what ever you want it to mean but to me it portrays bright colours and journey.
This picture was taken in the Memorial Park's Playground.
I think i would call this picture something simple just like the picture its self, The Red Slide.






This is my second picture is an intresting one as it shows alot throught a structured object.
This picture took me roughly 4/5 mins due to the fact that i was trying to find the right angle which would show what i was aiming for.
I like this image as it took me a while to get this how i wanted it so im happy its came out the way it has.
I think this looks like your in a cage or some sort of tube going upwards or possibaly on a rolla coster.
I took the picture in Memorial Park's Playground on part of the climbing frame.
I think if i had to call this anything it would probably be Veiw from The Inside.

The World Upside-Down

Today i have gone out and tried to look at things in a different way, by this i mean i have gone out and tried to look at things from the hight of a toddler to the hight of an adult and higher.

This picture took a while to capture due to me trying to position myself as well as the camera at the right angle. This is called View From The Inside.











This picture again took quite alot of time due to it being so cold and me shaking but in the end i managed to capture what i wanted. I called this picture The Red Slide which may seem simple but when you look at the picture its just as simple.









This picture was by chance, i was wandering around looking up at things in the play ground and found that from a lower angle this gives a real sence of what all the kids and toddlers see.
I didnt call this picture anything as i didnt find it that inspiring.









This picture was always meant to be on its side as the jagged edge of the building makes this picture stand out. The only problem i had with this was that the cars/lorries in the forground sometimes covered up the building and this car got in the way but in someways made the picture.
I once again didnt name this picture as it wasnt exactly how i wanted it to be but was the closest i was going to get for that time for the day.

My Favourite

I am going to look at three of my favourite pictures out of all the pictures i have taken so far.

DECISIVE MOMENTS
The first picture i am going to look at is my desisive moment picture.
I love this picture as i think it is the meaning of decisive moment, you have the skatboarder in mid air with people at the bottom left looking up at him, this also keeps in with the rule of thirds.








URBAN VS NATURE
This is my second picture and its my Urban vs Nature. I like this picture as i think the station is a good example of land and country side being taken over by new urban demands. I wish i had got more greenary in the shot instead of just at one side, this also is with the rule of thirds.








PORTRAIT PICTURE

This is my third picture and it is my portrait.
I really like this picture as everybody else seems oblivious and carrys on with what they are doing compared to the one person jumping in bright green.

Robert Capa

I have chosen to look at Robert Capa's work. I Decided i would look at his work because his work is sick but inspiring and i would like to try to encorparate his style into my work.

This is a picture of Robert Capa. Below i will look at some of his photography and look at how he has taken his images.

This picture is called 1800FT. It is a well know picture and is taken at a moment where the paratroupers are close to the gound but in this shot its made to look like the sky is filled with soldiers.

This picture once again has no persific title but is named under, Pablo Picasso and Françoise Gilot in France.


This picture and the one below were both taken on the same day. Capa didnt really give the photos any percific name, the only title that came with these pictures were American soldiers landing on Omaha Beach, D-Day, Normandy, France. June 6, 1944.


This picture, like the one above is titled American soldiers landing on Omaha Beach, D-Day, Normandy, France. June 6, 1944.. The scary thing was that Capa used to risk his life and get right to the front line action just to get some of his amazing pictures.

Photography Lesson Notes

Things i have learnt:

* Photography was supposedly created in 1839 but this was also the time that people realised that they could manipulate and edit pictures.
* Ansel Adams was a photographer and live in the USA and he took some of his most famous pictures around the 1900's.
* The rule of thirds, is what most photographers use in a lot of their work to produce eye-catching and inspirational pictures.
* The Golden third, this is the middle 'slice' out of the three thirds, this technique is widely used and the photographer would make sure that the golden third would be the piece of the picture with the most happening in it.


This picture by Ansel Adams is a good example of the rule of thirds.
The middle third 'golden third' has got the most going on in it as it has the scenery, road and a small car in the distance.

Photoshop Lesson 1

Today i have been looking at Photoshop and learning about how i can manipulate an image.
This is one of the pictures i decided to edit, this how the photo looked before i edited it. The picture on the right has been edited by using Watercolour.

The picture on the left is the original. I edited the left one with Fresco.

Photography Basics

I have been looking at SLR Camera's. SLR stands for Single Lense Reflex camera. This is one of the more traditional types of camera.
All camera's orininaly could only take film and you had to wait to see the image you have captured. Nowdays technology has advanced so much it uses the more up-to-date digital Micro-Chip system so you can take your picture and then view it straight away instead of waiting to see.

There are many ways of restricting light getting into the camera. The Apeture is one way of restricting light and there is also the Shutter, it is important to check the speed of the shutter as this determin's how much light is let in, the slower the shutter speed the more light is let in, so the faster the shutter less light is let in.
The F stop usually ranges from f/2.4 -----> f/22 but it can be different with every camera.

DOF stands for Depth Of Feild. This is very important when taking pictures because if you have a low F number the smaller the depth of field, the larger the hole. This means that more light will be let in and you will have a "bleached" image. Just like this one.

3. and a short description of the art work stating what you liked about it: When you first look at this picture it doesnt really look amazing or eye catching, this picture reminds of one of the best weeks of my live when i went to Paris and i visited Claude Monet's Home and Gardens, I got to wander around looking at the Water garden and the Japanese Bridge.

1. and why you disliked the work: I thought that the whole consept of projecting images and short films across a whole room at many various angles was really clever and interesting, i liked how the images and films seemed to link in over the top of each other. My only problem with this room/ peice of work in its self, i found it disturbing and bewildering that somebody would want it to be shown or viewed in a gallary.

My Introduction to Photography

I love photography bacause it preserves amazing exsperiences all over the world to so many people and keeps the past alive.
Photography to me is one of the most important things in life bacause it captures life as it is or was and keeps the special moments forever. I love the way i can capture the things i have done and some of the best days of my life all on Film or Micro-Chip. I love taking pictures of places, events and of things that are or have happened with the people i love.
When i take pictures i use loads of different types and styles of cameras, some of the different types are phone camera's, digital camera's, SLR camera's and more. xo
